I had volunteered to be an assistant coach for my eldest son’s soccer team. I know that they are short volunteers. I know that parent involvement is important. So I said I would assist. Just assist. I get a phone call one week before the first game. “We can’t get a hold of the coach. [...]

A Perfect Day

Sunday. Woke up, not late, but not early. Everyone was chipper. Woke up daddy, he made pancakes while I read with kids. After breakfast, daddy went back to bed. For the next hour and a half, I sat on the sofa, reading books and drinking coffee. The doorbell rang at 1130 – a friend of [...]

I didn’t want to go to hockey tonight. I had a terrible headache from yelling at my kids all afternoon. Oh boy – thank goodness I wasn’t recording my day for Violet. After 2pm would read “Kids whine and cry. Kitty yells at them to do what they are supposed to do and then yells [...]

Blame this (and the next couple of posts) on Violet. Please note that this post does not include – yelling at children for spilling a bowl of cereal on the floor – hollering “put on your freaking jackets” when they weren’t, um, putting on their freaking jacket – various arguments and battles amongst the children [...]

(Inspired by Violet’s musings about schooling issues, and all the comments about homeschooling.) Please note: I’m not saying that Violet should do things my way. I was just inspired by her post. And the great goddess knows how little I am inspired to write these days. Oh – and you do too. Seeing as I [...]
Survived the sickness

Thank goodness that it is over. I honestly don’t know how much longer I could have lasted. Washing 8 loads of laundry a day, smelling like vomit (and worse), not sleeping more than an hour at a time. It was like having a newborn again. Without the nice, sweet, newborn smell.
First time for everything…

I missed hockey this week. First game I’ve missed since starting on this crazy hockey journey. My kids were sick. Vomiting. Fun. I couldn’t leave them. They were waking regularly and puking, and crying. They needed their mom. Mom first. Hockey player second.
Could have, but I didn’t

Huge victory for me last night. My partner was out playing floor hockey (the best Solstice gift I have given *ever* complete with new sneakers, indoor hockey stick and new shorts). My oldest was refusing to go asleep. I had so much to do. Dishes, tidying (we were out skating until bedtime, so the usual [...]

The kid skates for hours on our local outdoor rink that we lovingly maintain. Perhaps he is reminding me of my belief that children benefit from *doing* things, not just *learning* how to do things. That kicking a soccer ball around in the park is just as good as playing on a team. Smart kid. [...]
