Today, for the first time ever, I didn’t fall in my hockey game. Every game, I have tripped over the blue line, spontaneously fallen on my (well padded) ass, tripped over my stick, or tumbled over a little mound of snow. It has become quite the joke. Of course there are times where it is [...]

On the other hand…

The kid skates for hours on our local outdoor rink that we lovingly maintain. Perhaps he is reminding me of my belief that children benefit from *doing* things, not just *learning* how to do things. That kicking a soccer ball around in the park is just as good as playing on a team. Smart kid. [...]
One lousy pound

After walking 1 hour and 45 minutes 5 days out of 7… After eating sensibly, not having treats, not baking (and eating raw yummy stuff)… After not imbibing in my favourite wine…. One lousy pound. Frustration reins.
Taking a break from walking tonight…

I’ve been doing 2 walks a day to get 1 hour and 45 minutes of walking in. Every day over the last week. Tonight I’m burnt out, and the kids napped, so they were up so late. I just couldn’t imagine walking around the neighbourhood tonight. So tired. Off to bed.
Sad Sad Moment

I put on jeans tried to put on jeans. I couldn’t pull them up. I couldn’t do them up. So I inhaled. I got them up and closed. But it wasn’t pretty and they hurt. I went for a second walk.
So what’s this gonna cost? (part 3)

There are about a million things I’d rather be doing after I finally get my kids to sleep than head out for a walk to fit my exercise in. You name it – and it would be better than walking. Granted, in this summer weather, one really cannot complain. But for the rest of the [...]
Consequences are a bitch

Okay – so I have been really sticking to my 10,000 steps or else for a couple of weeks. Good for me for lots of reasons. However, I have come up with a flaw in my plans. I may have to introduce a planned “no way” day every once and a while. I spent a [...]
Natural Consequences

I LOVE natural consequences. They work in so many wonderful ways while raising kids. Sometimes they are obvious. Walk through puddle, get wet feet. Refuse to wear mittens, get cold hands. Eat way too much butter straight from the fridge, get the runs. Run out on the street, get hit by car (KIDDING). Sometimes, the [...]
Back to Never-Never-Weight

Thrilled to report that I’m back to my never-never-weight. This is the weight that I had planned to never see again, and if I did see it, it would set off major alarm bells, and it would give me a huge kick in the pants, and I would get totally motivated to get back on [...]
Counting

I am taking a break this week from counting my steps. This started as an unplanned break – the battery died in my pedometer. I really really blow through these things. I think this is my 4th pedometer in a year. One just stopped working, one had an unfortunate accident in the rain while camping, [...]
